Bachmann Europe Proud to Support Local Charity Loros

Last modified date

On Friday 25th January, Bachmann Europe presented a cheque for £3,709.90 to the Leicestershire-based Charity Loros at their Glenfield headquarters. In 2018, a model of Class 37 diesel locomotive ‘Merl Evans 1947 – 2016’ was released as part of Bachmann’s Branchline range of OO scale models, the sales of which have enabled us to make this donation. Fittingly, the locomotive carries the number 37099.

The cheque was presented by Merl’s widow, Maureen Evans to Adrian Walker, Senior Fundraiser & Community Lead at Loros. Maureen was joined by Bachmann Europe’s Communications Manager, Richard Proudman, and Product Researcher, Steve Smith.

In 2016, Colas Rail named one of their Class 37 diesel locomotives ‘Merl Evans 1947 – 2016’ in tribute to Merl – who had been Bachmann Europe’s Head of Research and Development until his retirement in 2014. Merl was instrumental in the development of the company’s large portfolio of OO scale models for over 20 years and was an eloquent ambassador for not only Bachmann, but the entire model railway industry.

Colas Rail is one of Europe’s leading suppliers of railway infrastructure services, constructing and renewing all forms of railways across Europe and the UK. We would like to once again offer our thanks to Colas for helping us create such a fitting tribute to our dear friend and colleague Merl. The real locomotive operates trains across the UK, often hauling trains for Network Rail, with ‘Merl’ being a must-see locomotive for many enthusiasts.

Loros, which is based some 12 miles away from Bachmann’s Barwell offices, provides hospice care in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Loros was instrumental in caring for Merl, and offering support for his family, and we are delighted to be able to support this fantastic charity to enable them to help others.
