Product Highlight: N Scale YGB Bogie Hopper Wagons
There’s only a few weeks left for Bachmann’s Winter Sale, during which you’ll be able to find price reductions of up to 50% on selected lines from across many of Bachmann’s ranges at participating Bachmann retailers. Included in the Winter Sale are these N Scale models of the YGB Bogie Hopper Wagon from Graham Farish, so this is a great opportunity to find out more about them.
Each wagon features relief detail depicting the ribs along the sides, which is complemented by the livery application that uses accurate colours and authentic fonts, typefaces and logos. At both ends, the models feature etched platforms with optional underframe steps, along with several separately fitted components including the handrails and the wheels representing those used on the prototype to control the hopper doors.
Under the solebar, the discharge chutes that are characteristic to the bogie hoppers are modelled along each side and are surrounded at each end by full relief bogies with optional brake handwheels. The wagons feature NEM Coupling Pockets on the bogies and an accessory pack containing the optional handwheels and steps along with a number of other components is included in the box.
The YGB Bogie Hopper Wagons were constructed by British Rail during the 1980s, although their design was heavily influenced from similar wagons that had been used previously. These wagons were intended to transport ballast to sites where it could be easily discharged through the chutes underneath the hopper. Most were given the name ‘Seacow’, although some of the real wagons were fitted with generators and these were referred to as ‘Stingrays’. The YGB Bogie Hopper Wagons continue to be used today.
