Class 9F Arrives at Bachmann

Last modified date

A recent arrival to our Branchline OO range is our model of our BR Standard Class 9F No. 92211 in BR Black livery with Late Crest (32-860). This highly detailed model includes features such as etched smoke deflectors, sprung buffers and removable coal loads with coal space modelled beneath.

The last of the British Railways Standard Class locomotives to be designed by Riddles was the 9F heavy freight loco. It was one of the most powerful steam locomotive types ever constructed in Britain and successfully performed its intended duties. At various times during the 1950s, the 9Fs worked passenger trains with great success, demonstrating the versatility of the design.

No. 92220 ‘Evening Star’ was the very last steam locomotive to be built for British Railways, emerging from Swindon Works on 18th March 1960Withdrawals of the 9Fs began in 1964, with the final locomotives removed from service in 1968. Several examples have been preserved, including ‘Evening Star’.

Suitable with most of our wagons from the same period (1957 – 1966 British Railway Late Crest, Era 5), a classic combination for the 9F would be the 16T Mineral Wagons with variations in our range including:

  • 37-225H, 16 Ton Mineral Wagon in BR Grey (weathered) livery with top flap doors
  • 37-253B, 16 Ton Steel Mineral Wagon in BR Grey (weathered) livery
  • 37-239, Triple Pack 16 Ton Steel Mineral Wagon in BR Grey (weathered) livery
