Product Highlight: Thomas & Friends™ N and OO9 Scale New Arrivals
It’s been 80 years since Reverend W. Awdry first published his book The Three Railway Engines, which became the first entry in The Railway Series, and which was later adapted for television as Thomas & Friends™. It’s only fitting that Bachmann Europe celebrate this long running series’ anniversary by having several new Thomas & Friends™ models arrive this week for our N Scale and OO9 Scale ranges, so let’s have a look at these new arrivals in more detail!
N Scale
Our first newly arrived models are a pair of locomotives, several coaches and train set in N scale. These are designed to run on N Gauge track and are suitable for use with the other Thomas & Friends™ N Scale models along with those from the Graham Farish and EFE Rail brands.
N Scale Gordon The Express Engine
Gordon is a blue 4-6-2 (‘Pacific’ wheel arrangement) steam engine with the number 4 painted on his tender. Gordon first appeared in the 1st book in Reverend Wilbert Awdry’s The Railway Series, entitled ‘The Three Railway Engines,’ in 1945 and two other books in the series are dedicated to him, No.8 ‘Gordon the Big Engine’ and No.31 ‘Gordon the High Speed Engine.’ He pulls the express coaches used on fast trains.

N Scale Emily
Emily is a beautiful emerald green engine with shiny paintwork and gleaming brass fittings. She can be a little bossy and think she knows best, but is always ready to help a friend. Emily is based on a GNR Stirling Single.

N Scale Emily’s Coaches
After Emily rescued Oliver and Toad, who were stuck on the tracks, Sir Topham Hatt rewarded her with a brand new pair of coaches.
N Scale Henrietta
Henrietta first came to work on Thomas’ branch line along with Toby when their original line was closed down and a new engine with cowcatchers and wheel-guards was needed to travel along the roadside tramway to the quarry at the end of the line. She and Toby have a strong friendship and they can often be seen working together. Henrietta is based on a 4 wheel coach from the Wisbech & Upwell Tramway.

N Scale Hannah
Hannah first came to the Island of Sodor to work with Toby while her sister Henrietta was being overhauled. Unlike her sister, Hannah likes to go fast. Hannah is based on a 4 wheel coach from the Wisbech and Upwell Tramway.

Narrow Gauge OO9 Scale
Our next new Thomas & Friends™ arrivals include several coaches and wagons from the Narrow Gauge Skarloey Railway on the eastern side of the Island of Sodor. These models are designed for use on N or OO9 gauge track and can be used with the locomotives in the Thomas & Friends™ Narrow Gauge range as well as models from the Bachmann Narrow Gauge brand and Bachmann Trains’ Talyllyn models. At 1:76.2 scale, the models are the same scale as the Thomas & Friends™ OO Scale models and can be used alongside them to depict both the standard and narrow gauge railways at the same time.
OO9 Scale Red Carriage
This 4 wheel coach is one of the types of coaches used on the narrow gauge Skarloey Railway, and is decorated in red and brown. It is based on the Brown, Marshalls Carriages used on the Talyllyn Railway as Nos. 1, 2 and 3.

This 4 wheel coach is also used on the Skarloey Railway and is decorated in blue and cream. This coach is based on the Talyllyn Railway’s Lancaster Carriage No. 4.

OO9 Scale Slate Wagon with Load
Our final models are the slate wagons that are used at the slate quarries along the Skarloey Railway. These are available in multiple colours and are based on the wooden slate wagons used by the Talyllyn Railway.
