Product Highlight: OO Scale LSWR Cross Country Coach Packs
It’s the start of a new year and for our first Product Highlight of 2024, we’re taking the opportunity to look at some of the OO Scale models that are already available from the EFE Rail range – the LSWR Cross Country Coach packs.
Each pack contains either three or four coaches that carry authentic running numbers and liveries for the era that they represent. The coach bodies feature a high level of detail, with several separately fitted parts, including ventilators on the roof, handrails and grab handles along the body, and underframe components. The coaches also share the following features:
- Accessory Pack
- NEM Coupling Pockets
- Close Coupling Mechanism
The London and South Western railway constructed 36 sets of Cross County coaches between 1906 and 1910. The sets were originally comprised of four coaches, with each set containing a 1st/3rd composite coach, a 2nd/3rd composite coach and two Brake Third coaches. The 2nd/3rd composite coaches were removed in the mid-to-late 1930s, reducing each set to 3 coaches. The coaches continued to be used for several years by both the Southern Railway and British Railways, with the last coach being withdrawn in the 1950s.
E86011 – LSWR Cross Country 4-Coach Pack LSWR Salmon & Brown
Our first pack is E86011, which is a 4-Coach set in the London and South Western Railway’s Salmon and Brown livery. This is set No. 63, and is made up of Brake Third coaches No. 1519 and No. 1520, 1st/3rd Composite coach No. 2609 and 2nd/3rd Composite coach No. 870.
E86012 – LSWR Cross Country 4-Coach Pack SR Maunsell Green
Our next pack is E86012, which is another 4-Coach set but this time in the Southern Railway’s Green livery. This depicts set No. 134, which consists of Brake Third coaches No. 2960 and No. 2961, 1st/3rd Composite coach No. 5065 and Third Class coach No. 614.
E86013 – LSWR Cross Country 3-Coach Pack SR Malachite Green
Our third set is E86013, which is a 3-Coach Pack in the Malachite Green livery of the Southern Railway. This is set No. 253, which comprises Brake Third coaches No. 2925 and No. 2929 and Composite coach 5056.
E86014 – LSWR Cross Country 3-Coach Pack BR Crimson
Our penultimate pack is E86014, which is a 3-Coach Pack in British Railways’ Crimson livery. This is set No. 130, which is made up of Brake Third coach No. S2953 and No. S2955 with Composite coach No. S5041.
E86015 – LSWR Cross Country 3-Coach Pack BR (SR) Green
Our final pack is E86015, which is a 3-Coach Pack in BR (SR) Green livery. This depicts set No. 314, which contains Brake Third coaches No. S2679 and No. S2981 and Composite coach No. S5043.
