Product Highlight: OO Scale Class 20/0

Last modified date

OO scale models of the Class 20 are set to return to the Bachmann Branchline range over the next few months, so now is the perfect time to have a closer look at these upcoming locomotives.

These models all feature the high level of detail that you would expect from a a Bachmann Branchline Diesel Locomotive. There is an unmotorised rotating radiator fan in the roof, whilst the body sides feature one piece radiator shutters. The sides and ends of the locomotive have several separately applied metal detail parts such as the handrails, grab handles, sand pipes and etched fan grilles.

The locomotives have directional and interior lighting, with the colours and temperature of the lighting having been specially chosen in order to accurately portray both the era of the locomotive and the type of lighting being used.

Beneath the solebar, these models feature chassis blocks and bogie towers made from diecast metal, whilst the bogies themselves are assembled from multiple components with impressive full relief details. The gearboxes are also made of diecast metal, with gearing that allows for realistic prototypical running speeds and haulage capabilities. The locomotives are driven on all axles, with each axle having separate metal bearings. These three models also feature sprung metal Round Oleo buffers at each end and all come with an accessory pack that contains optional snowploughs.

Along with all of the features mentioned above, these new Class 20 models also have the following aspects in common:

  • Five pole, twin shaft motor with two flywheels providing drive to both bogies
  • Electrical pickup from all wheels
  • Detachable coupling pockets to NEM362 standards fitted to each bogie
  • Plux22 DCC decoder interface
  • Speaker installed in all models for optimum sound reproduction

SOUND FITTED versions of each model will also be available, which will be equipped with a Zimo MS450P22 DCC Sound Decoder. This decoder has been programmed with a sound project that was produced specifically for our Class 20 models utilising recordings from real locomotives. The SOUND FITTED models may also be used on Analogue DC layouts, where engine start up sequence and running sounds are produced when power is applied.
