Product Highlight: OO Scale First Generation British Rail DMUs
After focusing on items in our smaller and larger scale ranges for the last couple of Product Highlights, this time we return to OO scale products from the Bachmann Branchline range.
Recent arrivals to this range include a number of First Generation BR Diesel Multiple Unit models, which are available at retailers now. These models all share the following features:

31-326B – Class 105 2-Car DMU BR Green (Speed Whiskers)
Our first model is 31-326B, which depicts a Class 105 DMU in BR Green, with the British Railways Roundel emblem and speed whiskers. The unit is made up of Driving Motor Brake Second car No. E51291 and Driving Motor Composite (with Lavatory) No. E56449. It carries a headcode of 15 and destination blinds for Grantham and Lincoln Central.
There is an 8-pin decoder socket in each car to allow the model to be fitted with DCC decoders to allow for digital control.
31-325A – Class 105 2-Car DMU BR Blue (Weathered)
Our next model is 31-325A, which is another Class 105 DMU, this time in weathered BR Blue livery. It is made up of 2 cars; Driving Motor Brake Second No. E51282 and Driving Motor Composite (with Lavatory) No. E56429. The model has destination blinds for Newcastle and Hexham.
Like the previous model, 31-325A also has an 8-pin decoder in each car to allow for digital control.
32-285A(SF) – Class 101 2-Car DMU BR Green (Speed Whiskers)
The penultimate model is 32-285A which depicts a Class 101 DMU in BR Green with speed whiskers and the British Railways Roundel emblem. The 2 cars are Driving Motor Brake Second No. SC51231 and Driving Motor Composite (with Lavatory) No. SC56389, with the headcode B and destination blinds for Perth and Dundee Tay Bridge.
This analogue model is ready to accept a speaker and also has a 21-pin Decoder Socket that allows both cars to be controlled digitally after fitting a single decoder.
There is also a SOUND FITTED version of this model which is available under product code 32-285ASF. The SOUND FITTED model is equipped with a Zimo MS440C 21MTC DCC Sound Decoder, which features a custom sound project with over 25 different functions. The SOUND FITTED model can also be used on layouts with analogue control, with normal load running sounds and any other automatic or randomised sounds played when power is applied.
32-287B(SF) – Class 101 2-Car DMU BR Blue & Grey
Our final model is 32-287B, which is a Class 101 DMU in BR Blue & Grey. Another 2-Car unit, this model is made up of Driving Motor Brake Second No. M51198 and Driving Motor Composite (with Lavatory) No. M56337. The destination blinds on this unit are for Chester and Manchester.
Just like the previous model, the analogue version can be fitted with a single 21-pin decoder to enable DCC control.
Alternatively, there is a SOUND FITTED version available as product code 32-287BSF. This SOUND FITTED model is also equipped with a Zimo MS440C 21MTC DCC Sound Decoder, featuring a custom sound project with over 25 different functions. The SOUND FITTED model can also be used on layouts with analogue control, where it will play normal load running sounds and any other automatic or randomised sounds when power is applied.
