Product Highlight: N Scale Class 319 and 769

Bachmann’s Winter Sale lasts until the end of the year and during that time, you’ll be able to find price reductions of up to 50% on selected lines from across many of Bachmann’s ranges at participating Bachmann retailers. Included in the Winter Sale are the N Scale models of the Class 319 and Class 769 4‑Car Multiple Units from Graham Farish, so this a great opportunity to find out more about these models.
These models feature the high level of detail that you would expect from a Graham Farish model. Each car is modelled to realistic effect and is decorated using accurate colours and authentic fonts, typefaces and logos, whilst the cabs at the outer ends feature separately fitted windscreen wipers and functional multiple unit couplings.
The cars feature internal lighting which illuminates the detailed interiors of the seats and tables. Along the roofs, there is a pantograph well which are empty in the case of the Class 769. For the Class 319s, the pantograph well contains an accurate representation of a Brecknell Willis or Stone Faiveley depending on the unit being modelled. These models also share the following features:
- Powerful coreless motor and flywheel fitted to the MSO vehicle
- Electrical pickup from all axles
- Integral conductive couplings between vehicles
- Directional lighting – switchable on/off via DCC or the chassis-mounted switches
- Speaker Fitted
- Sprung pantograph where applicable
- Easy Access DCC decoder socket – located behind an underframe panel on the TSO vehicle
- Equipped with a Next18 Decoder Socket (one decoder required) – recommended Decoder item No. 36-567A
The Class 319 dual-voltage, four‑car Electric Multiple Units were built by British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL) in York between 1987 and 1988 (Class 319/0) and 1990 (Class 319/1) for use on the north-south cross-London services, notably the then-new Thameslink service which commenced in May 1988 running between Bedford and Brighton. Entering traffic in Network SouthEast colours, the units later received Thameslink livery, and many have subsequently found use with other operators away from London including Northern Rail. Between 2017 and 2021, 44 units were fitted with a diesel engine and associated equipment to become the Class 769 ‘Flex’ four‑car Bi-mode Multiple Units.
