Product Highlight: OO Scale Western Pullman 6-Car DEMU Train Pack

This train pack depicts the Western Pullman made up of up of car Nos. W60090, W60740, W60730, W60471, W60731 and W60091, measuring over 1.5 metres in total length. All of the cars are decorated in the iconic Grey & Blue Pullman Livery and features several separately fitted metal detail parts, such as handrails, roof panel access handles and etched fan grilles where appropriate. At each end, the fronts of the cabs feature depictions of the multiple-working equipment, accurately portraying the former Midland Pullman during the time that it was used throughout the Western Region.
The power cars also feature authentically decorated bufferbeam pipework fitted at each cab end, and there are separately fitted underframe components beneath the solebar of every car. The bogies are constructed from multiple components and feature brake and suspension detail.
The head and tail lamps at each end of the train are directionally lit, and the cab at the leading end also features cab lighting which automatically turns off when moving. The interiors of the saloons also have lighting, along with illuminated table lamps when used on DCC. The model also has the following features:
- Two motorised power cars – each fitted with a five pole motor with flywheel providing drive to the leading bogie
- Each leading bogie features twin axle drive with separate metal bearings fitted to each driven axle
- Trailing axles run in metal pinpoint bearings
- Electrical pickup from all wheels
- Detachable coupling pockets to NEM362 standards fitted to the leading bogie of each power car
- Conductive couplings with integral close coupling mechanisms fitted between vehicles
- 21 Pin DCC decoder interface in each power car (with 2 DCC sound decoders pre-fitted)
- Each train pack supplied with an accessory pack comprising metal screw-link couplings (dummy), headcode discs and coupling tool
This model is SOUND FITTED and features Zimo MX644C DDC Sound Decoders in each power car that have been programmed using an exclusive sound project containing over 25 sound and lighting functions using recordings from real locomotives.
This SOUND FITTED model may also be used on most Analogue (DC) layouts, where it will play basic prime mover sounds and many other automatic or randomised sounds. Directional lights and passenger compartment lights will also illuminate when power is applied. If sufficient voltage is available, the leading cab lights will illuminate when stationary.
The Western Pullman 6-Car Units were originally built in the mid-1950s as 6-car units for the British Railways Midland Region, where they were instead known as ‘Midland Pullmans’. After the West Coast Main Line was electrified during the first half of the 1960s, they were withdrawn and stored at Swindon. Whilst there, modifications were made to allow the two units to work together as a 12-car set, and the pair of units were formally transferred to the Western Region, where they were intended to operate on trains between Bristol Temple Meads, London Paddington and Oxford. The units were used until the early 1970s when the Western Region Pullman services were discontinued.
